Dear families of King George School, Bon retour and Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year! We hope you have had a wonderful summer break, and we look forward to welcoming our students to school on Monday, August 31, 2026. Our Kindergarten students will have a staggered entry on Monday, August 31, 2026. Families of Kindergarten students, please see below for the time your child(ren) will be attending. In this family update you will find information on the following:
Classroom Teacher and First Day of School – August 31, 2026 Classroom teachers will be sending an introductory email to families tomorrow, Friday, August 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM. In that email, there will be specific information about the first day of school, including where your child will be meeting their teacher in the morning. Please take the time to respond to the email from your child’s teacher to include information about how your child will be coming to school and leaving school for the first week of school and for the remainder of the year. In terms of the safety of your child, it is imperative that we know what their “Going Home Plan” is for Monday afternoon. Kindergarten | Staggered Entry Monday, August 31 is staggered entry days for kindergarten students and regular classes start Tuesday, September 1, 2026. As a reminder to kindergarten parents/guardians, below is the staggered entry schedule: Monday August 31st , 2026 – K AM staggered Entry:

**Please be reminded that there is NO bussing for Kindergarten students on this day. Kindergarten students are to be dropped off and picked up at the South East/Boys Doors (9th street courtyard) for staggered entry. Regular Kindergarten entry/dismissal procedures and bussing begin Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Soft Entry Tuesday, September 1 | Bell at 7:58 AM for Grades 1-5 and Kindergarten AM: Soft Entry will begin on Tuesday, September 1. The school doors will open at 7:50 AM. All students will enter the school between 7:50 AM-7:58 AM at their designated doors (see teacher introduction email) upon drop-off or once they have exited the bus, and head to their class. A staff member will be at your child’s designated door to greet them. Students will be supervised inside. Important to note: The bell will ring at 7:58 AM, at which time the school doors will be closed. All students arriving after 7:58 AM are asked to enter through the Main Entry doors on 10 ST NW and make their way to class. It is imperative that attendance, teaching, and learning begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Having the doors close at 7:58 AM allows the teacher on supervision to begin their attendance and instruction on time. A student will only be considered late after 8:00 AM and is to check in at the office so that we can ensure their attendance is accounted for. Students will not be supervised outside in the morning. Admin team staff will be circulating outside, beginning at 7:50 AM, to support Grades 1-5 students to get safely to their door. Kindergarten Students must be handed off directly from parent/guardian to the teacher/school supervisor. They must never be dropped off to walk to their doors independently. Kindergarten teachers will not release students until they can see the Parent/Guardians who are picking up their Kindergarten student (hand-to-hand). Dismissal | Bell Times - Monday to Thursday at 2:30 PM for Grades 1-5 and Kindergarten PM Monday-Thursday at 2:30 PM for Grades 1-5 and Kindergarten PM: We want to remind families that instructional time goes right until the dismissal bell at 2:30 PM. Students will then be changing their shoes and getting ready to go home. Don’t be alarmed if your child isn’t outside the doors right at 2:30 PM, as they may still be getting ready. Early Dismissal Fridays | Bell Time 12:00 PM We want to remind families that on early dismissal Fridays, the dismissal bell rings at 12:00 PM. Kindergarten will be alternating attendance on Friday mornings. The schedule for Kindergarten Friday attendance is available on our school calendar. Family Orientation – Thursday, September 3, 2026 Save the date! Our Family Orientation is an opportunity for families to see your child’s classroom, meet your child’s teacher and learn more about the academic, social, and well-being goals for this year. This year our Family Orientation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 4:45 PM- 5:15 PM and from 5:45 PM – 6:15 PM. Please only attend one session per child. If you are in a situation where you need to attend more than both sessions (i.e. three children in different grades), please reach out to the school office before September 3 so we can arrange an alternative opportunity. Pancake Breakfast – Friday, September 11, 2025 We’re looking forward to seeing our King George families on Friday, September 11, 2026, for the annual Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 AM to 8:45 AM. Supervision for students will begin at 7:50 AM . More details to come next week. A big thanks to our King George School Council for organizing this special event. Our School Council plays an integral role in providing an enriching learning environment for all students, by fundraising to purchasing high-quality resources, and organizing special events. Our school community relies on the efforts made by our School Council. All parents are automatic members of the School Council, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you out at our first meeting on September 17 at 6:30 PM. We are excited to see your children on Monday and to re-connect with our amazing King George community. Enjoy these last few days of summer break before the commencement of the 2026-2027 school year.
