Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

School Literary Materials Selection

Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.

CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.

Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.

How to Check a Student’s Library Account

  1. Access the student’s library account by visiting https://ims.cbe.ab.ca or by clicking the CBE E-library logo on this page.
  2. Log in using the student’s CBE ID and Password (make sure to use the numerical ID for the username).
  3. Click on My Account, which is located under the CBE banner at the top of the screen.
  4. Select Review My Account to view any checked-out books and other account details.

Borrowing Guidelines

To ensure that everyone has access to our resources, we follow specific borrowing guidelines:

  • Kindergarten: 1 book
  • Grades 1, 2, & 3: 2 books total (1 English, 1 French)
  • Grades 4 & 5: 3 books total (1 English, 2 French)

These guidelines help us manage our shared collection effectively and support all learners in accessing our materials. At King George School, we aim to offer an excellent learning commons experience. To ensure smooth operation, please return borrowed books within the two-week loan period. If a book is overdue, you will not be able to check out another until the overdue book is returned.

If a book is 30 days overdue, it will be deemed lost, and a replacement fee will be added to the student's MyCBE PowerSchool account, which can be paid online. Please note that all fees are final. Once the fee is paid, the book becomes the student's property. If the student finds the book after paying the fee, they are welcome to keep it.
