Dear families of King George School, 

We hope you have had a wonderful summer break. We look forward to welcoming grades 1-5 students to school on Thursday August 29, 2024. We are also looking forward to welcoming our Kindergarten students for staggered entry on Thursday and Friday (see below for details). 

In this family update you will find information on the following:

Classroom Teacher  

Classroom teachers will be sending an introductory email to families on Wednesday, August 28 at 11:00 AM. In this email, there will be specific information about the first day of school, including where your child will be meeting their teacher in the morning. 

Kindergarten | Staggered Entry  

August 29 and 30 are staggered entry days for kindergarten students and regular classes start Tuesday, September 3, 2024. As a reminder to kindergarten parents, below is the staggered entry schedule:  

  • Thursday August 29  
  • 8:30 AM– 10:00 AM – AM Kindergarten with surnames A-La 
  • 12:00 PM– 1:30 PM – PM Kindergarten with surnames A-J 
  • Friday August 30 
  • 8:15 AM – 9:45 AM – AM Kindergarten with surnames Le-Z  
  • 10:15 AM – 11:45 AM – PM Kindergarten with surnames K-Z  

Soft Entry | Bell at 7:58 AM 

This year, morning supervision for students will be from 7:50-7:58 AM. The school doors will open at 7:50 AM and all students will enter the school upon drop-off or once they have exited the bus. A staff member will be at your child’s designated doors to greet them. 

Important to note: The bell will ring at 7:58 AM, at which time the school doors will be closed. All students arriving after 7:58 AM are asked to make their way to the front office to check-in. It is imperative that attendance, teaching and learning begin promptly at 8:00. Having the doors close at 7:58 AM allows the teacher on supervision to begin their attendance and instruction on time.  A student will only be considered late after 8:00 AM.   

Dismissal | Bell at 2:30 PM 

We want to remind families that instructional time goes right until the dismissal bell at 2:30 PM. Students will then be changing their shoes and getting ready to go home. Don’t be alarmed if your child isn’t outside the doors right at 2:30 PM, as they may still be getting ready. 

Early Dismissal Fridays | 8:00 AM – 12:10 PM (Morning Bell at 7:58 AM) 

We want to remind families that on early dismissal Friday’s, the dismissal bell rings at 12:10 PM. Kindergarten will be alternating attendance on Friday mornings. The schedule for Kindergarten Friday attendance is available on our school calendar.  

Open House – September 12  

Save the date! Our school open house, where you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and learn more about the academic, social, and well-being goals for this year. This year, our Open House will be September 12 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. More information will be shared in the upcoming weeks. 

Pancake Breakfast - September 6  

We’re looking forward to seeing as many families as possible on Friday, September 6th (7:30 AM – 9:00 AM) for the annual Pancake Breakfast. A big thanks to our King George School Council for organizing this special event. Our School Council plays an integral role in providing an enriching learning environment for all students. From fundraising efforts to purchase high quality resources, to organizing special events, like the Halloween Dance, our school community relies on the efforts made by our School Council. All parents are automatic members of the School Council and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you out at our first meeting on September 19th at 7:00 PM. 

We are excited to re-connect with our amazing King George community. Enjoy these last few days of summer break before the commencement of the 2024-2025 school year.
