Dear Families of King George School,

As we welcome October, a month often associated with gratitude and reflection, we would like to begin by recognizing the incredible contributions of our custodial team.

Today, October 2 is National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day, and we extend our sincere thanks to M. Paul, Mme Lorena, and M. Rommel for everything they do to keep King George School clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for learning each day. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt by every student, staff member, and family who walks through our doors.

Our gratitude also extends to the outstanding teachers who bring patience, expertise, and heart to their work every day. As we recognize World Teachers' Day this coming Monday, we celebrate all educators who inspire curiosity, foster belonging, and support the success and well-being of every student.

As we move beyond the busy excitement of September and settle into the routines of the school year, we also want to thank our families and community members for your partnership and support. New beginnings often come with extra challenges, extra flexibility, and extra helping hands, and we are grateful for the many ways our families work alongside us to support students.

It truly takes a village, and we're so glad you're part of ours.

Lost and Found

Lost And Found

It's hard to believe we're only one month into the school year, but our Lost and Found is already overflowing!

If your child is missing a hoodie, jacket, hat, water bottle, or other personal items, please encourage them to stop by and take a look. Families are also welcome to check the Lost and Found when visiting the school. We would love to see these items reunited with their owners before the collection grows any larger!

Due to the volume of items that accumulate throughout the year, the school typically keeps unclaimed Lost and Found items for approximately one month before donating them. We encourage families to check regularly so that missing items can find their way back home.

Lockdown Practice

On Thursday, we completed our first lockdown practice of the school year. In CBE, schools complete two lockdown practices each school year, scheduled in collaboration with the Calgary Police Service (CPS).

Keeping our students and staff safe includes making sure everyone is familiar with our emergency procedures. At KGS, lockdown practices are conducted in a calm and organized manner, usually with 2–3 CPS officers working alongside school administration.

Students learn to recognize the announcement:

“Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown.”

Staff ensure that everyone moves quickly into the nearest safe space. This means students go into the closest available classroom or secure space rather than trying to return to their own classroom.

A continuous bell outside the school signals that anyone outdoors should move away from the building. St. Giles Presbyterian Church serves as our school’s designated external safe site.

Students and staff also learn that they remain safely in place until a uniformed CPS officer opens the room and lets them know that the lockdown has ended.

Our goal in practicing these procedures is not to create worry, but to build familiarity, preparedness, and confidence so that students know what to do and can trust that the adults around them are prepared to keep them safe.
