A highlight of this week was Folklofolie. The live traditional French music and student participation in singing, dancing, and playing instruments was so much fun!  The fee for the Folklofolie presentation is posted on your MYCBE account.

Personal Mobile Devices

We are seeing many personal mobile devices at school. On June 17, 2024, Alberta’s government introduced new restrictions on the use of cellphones and access to social media in schools. Beginning in the fall of 2024, the use of personal mobile devices in schools, or access to social media sites on school networks is no longer permitted.

Please review AR 6008 with your child(ren)- The purpose of this administrative regulation is to:

  • Comply with provincial direction to provide clear guidelines regarding the use of student personal mobile devices in schools.
  • Improve learning outcomes by supporting a distraction-free learning environment that promotes well-being and limits opportunities for bullying.

If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call the office and we will relay messages to your child.

Please visit https://cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/personal-mobile-devices-and-social-media-use-in-schools-2024.aspx for more information.

School Spirit Day

Next Friday, March 13, we are having School Spirit Day.  Students are encouraged to wear their grade’s colour:

  • Grade 1- Blue
  • Grade 2 – Green
  • Grade 3 – Yellow
  • Grade 4 – Orange
  • Grade 5 – Red

We will also be having a school wide Bingo.  Not only is this a fun and popular activity, it is a great way to build students’ French vocabulary while strengthening our school community and French Culture.  Our goal is to have Friday Bingo bi-weekly starting in April and until the end of the year. This activity will support our School Development Plan Goal and this year’s outcome: Students will enhance their oral French comprehension and expression by engaging in purposeful collaborative communication that develops their overall French language proficiency.

Students are welcome to bring their own popcorn for “le bingo du vendredi”!

Learn and Share | School Planning Engagement

Dear King George School Parents/Guardians,

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives.

During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:

1) Learn About

  • School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
  • How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
  • How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
  • School fees and why they are necessary

2) Participate

  • Participate in our virtual special parent/guardian meeting on Tuesday, March 10 @ 6:30 PM to learn more about school planning. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at this meeting.
