Weekly Update Jan 22-26 | Cold Weather, Toys or Personal Items from Home, Visit from Elder John Snow, Dates of SIgnificance
Dear Families of King George School,
Thank you for sending your children dressed well for the weather as we continue to experience some very cold days. This is a reminder that our supervision begins at 7:45 am. When it is –20 degrees Celsius with the windchill, we will open the doors at that time for students to make their way inside. We do not have supervision before 7:45. Please do not drop your children off without supervision before this time, especially when the temperature falls below –20 degrees with the wind chill. If you know you are going to be late picking your child up from school, we ask that you inform the office, and we will have your child(ren) wait in the office. When we see students still waiting to be picked up after the buses leave, we bring them to the office to wait. Thank you for your assistance.
Walk to School Day Feb 7
Mark your calendars - February 7th is winter walk to school day! We will recognize the day by organizing walking trains from nearby locations. Stay tuned for more information.
Toys/Personal Items from Home
We are finding that students are bringing toys and personal items from home. These include hockey gear, action figures, Pokémon cards, etc. Please do not send your child to school with these items as they become a distraction, sometimes can be the cause of conflict, and may get lost or stolen. Our priority is on student learning and when toys and personal items become the focus for conversation, it takes away from the support we can provide for learning. Please note that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Visit from Elder John Snow
Next Friday, students in grade 5 will have the opportunity to connect with Elder John Snow. He will be speaking with students about building community, through the lens of reconciliation.
