Update Dec. 4-8 | Warm Feet for the Street, Digital Literacy Resources, Patrols, 50 Years of French Immersion, Movie Night

Dear families,

Welcome to December! It has been a pleasure to observe students as they learn from the Niitsitapi Pi'kssii (Blackfoot Fancy Beings) art exhibit. Students are taking time to analyze, connect and respond to the art pieces with their peers. Some classes have even engaged in mathematical discussions while at the art exhibit. We are fortunate to have these pieces in our building for another week and a half!

School Development Plan 2023-2024, School Results Report 2022-2023, and Fees Report to Parents 2022-2023

The School Improvement Results Report (SIRR) for 2022-23 and School Development Plan (SDP) for 2023-2024 is now posted on the school website. The SDP includes our school goals, strategies and measures for this year. This year, we will be focusing on Assessment, specifically on creating a feedback-rich culture through cycles of learning.  Also posted on our school website is the Fees Report to Parents for 2022-2023.

Warm Feet for the Street (Monday December 4– Wednesday December 19)

It is our tradition to contribute to The Mustard Seed’s “Warm Feet for the Street” initiative. Students are invited to fill up some warm winter socks with essential items like personal hygiene (mouth care, deodorant, soap, etc.), facial tissue, gift cards, special notes/messages, etc., and place their socks under our school tree outside the office. A list of essential items is attached for your reference. The Mustard Seed is also collecting backpacks filled with essential items. If you would like to fill a backpack instead of a sock, please do so. “Warm Feet for the Street” will begin on Monday December 4. The socks will be delivered to The Mustard Seed just prior to the Winter Break. We thank you for your generosity!

Digital Literacy Resources

The CBE has created a digital decodable library for students. This resource has been developed to provide access to digital versions of decodable reading materials for CBE teachers and families. These digital offerings support both our understanding of decodable books and provide opportunities for beginning readers to access these reading materials at home and school. We also want to share https://boukili.ca/en/ with you, which is a digital French library application.

School Safety Patrols – Signs and Signals

Our AMA School Safety Patrols are actively patrolling for this school year. It’s so important that when you’re driving or walking to school, you obey the school patrollers’ signs and signals. When patrollers are holding out their stop signs, this means vehicle traffic must stop, so pedestrians can cross the crosswalk. Once patrollers blow their whistle and step back with the stop signs behind their backs, it is safe for vehicles to proceed, and pedestrians to wait until the next crossing.

50 years of French Immersion

This year, the CBE is celebrating 50 years of French Immersion. As we plan for activities and celebration, we are curious to know if any of our parents or community members are graduates of the French Immersion program in Calgary. If you are, please email rmsamson@cbe.ab.ca. Thank you!
