Dear families of King George School,

A great BIG thank you goes out to our School Council for organizing another successful pancake breakfast! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make the pancake breakfast possible.  The pancake breakfast is always such a wonderful and positive way to kick-off to the new school year, together as a school community. We know it is a huge amount of work to put on an event for a community of our size and we are so grateful.

Dismissal Procedures

If there are changes in your child's dismissal routine, such as getting picked-up by a parent instead of taking the bus or going to their after-school program, you must inform the front office staff. This ensures that we have a safe and smooth dismissal process.

Dressing for the Weather

We want to remind families to ensure your child(ren) comes to school prepared for any type of weather as many learning activities take place outdoors. Please check the weather with your child when preparing for the day.

Library Assistant – Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to support our Library Assistant, Mme Shahida. The volunteer's main role is to regularly support Shahida in shelving books and library organization. If you are available to volunteer, please email kinggeorge@cbe.ab.ca.

Picture Day – September 11

Picture Day is on Wednesday September 11. Your child will have the opportunity to have an individual picture taken by Lifetouch. The pictures will be sent home with your child in the following weeks, and you can choose to order pictures. Ordering pictures is optional; however we do ask students to have their picture taken for school records. There will be a picture retake day offered on October 16.

Parent/Guardian Viewpoint

You will be receiving a link to the Parent/Guardian Viewpoint (through Microsoft Forms) from your child’s classroom teacher in the upcoming days. This online questionnaire will allow us to get to know your child to better support them both academically and holistically at school.

Action Items - Important Documents to fill out and return

All families should have received an email from CBE School Improvement regarding mandatory forms to fill out online (School Engage) by Monday, September 16.  Please refer to this email for more information on how to complete these mandatory forms.

Field Trips Within Walking Distance

During the school year, teachers may choose to bring students to Confederation Park for a walking field trip. For more information, including safety measures, please read the Walking Field Trips 2024-25 information.

Open House – September 12

We want to remind families that our Open House is next Thursday! Sessions will be from 6:00-6:30 PM and 6:45-7:15 PM. There are two additional sessions for Kindergarten students, one from 9:00 AM and one at 12:15 PM. Please sign up for a conference using the Conference Booking system in your MyCBE account.

Government Assessments – Grades 1, 2 & 3

The Provincial government requires that all students in grades 1, 2 and 3 complete literacy and numeracy assessment prior to September 27. These assessments are used to see where students are in order to plan for appropriate support moving forward. If your child is in grades 1, 2 or 3, they will be starting these assessments on Monday. Teachers in all grades always assess students either formally or informally during this time in order to plan for learning. This is a standard practice in our schools.
