Sept. 4-8 Update | Forms, Pancake Breakfast, Field Trips, Traffic Safety, Soft Entry, Kindergarten

Dear families of King George School,

The first days of school went smoothly and were buzzing with excitement. It was heartwarming to see how happy teachers and staff were to welcome their new students to their classrooms. King George is a busy place with so much positive energy. I am grateful to be a part of this thriving school community. I had the pleasure of meeting some parents and look forward to connecting with more families at our Pancake Breakfast next week.

Important Info and Upcoming Dates

MyCBE & Student Safety

For the safety of your children, we ask parents/guardians to complete important forms as soon as possible, such as:

  • Student Demographic Report
  • All media consents including consent for CBE Use of Student Information
  • Annual Volunteer Registration Form

All of this is done in your MyCBE. Please ensure that your account is active and ready to go. If you need assistance, you can access support through the main page of MyCBE.

Pancake Breakfast

We’re looking forward to seeing as many families as possible next Friday morning (September 8 – 7:30 am – 9:00 am) for the annual Pancake Breakfast. A big thanks to our King George School Council for organizing this special event. Our School Council plays an integral role in providing an enriching learning environment for all students. From fundraising efforts to purchase high quality resources, to organizing special events, like the Halloween Dance, our school community relies on the efforts made by our School Council. All parents are automatic members of the School Council and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you out at our first meeting on September 14.

Field Trips Within Walking Distance

During the school year, teachers may choose to bring students to Confederation Park for a walking field trip. For more information, including safety measures, please read the Field Trips Within Walking Distance letter under Resources.

Traffic Safety

Morning entry and afternoon dismissal are busy times at our school! To ensure our school is a safe place for everyone, please make sure to follow the safety measure below:

  • Follow the safety patrollers' signs and signals at the 9th street crosswalk when they begin their duties later this month.
  • Use the “Kiss and Go” on 9th street to drive up, park, kiss your child, and drive away. This lane is not for parking. If you wish to wait in the school grounds with your child prior to school starting, you must park in the surrounding communities. We appreciate your cooperation!
  • Do not use the staff parking lots for drop-off or pick-up at all. Please use the designated kiss and go or surrounding street parking.
  • Walk with your child on the sidewalks and not through the parking lots.

Soft-Entry for Grades 1-5 is from 7:50 am – 8:00 am.

When your child arrives during this block of time, they put their belongings away, say hello to their classmates, get settled, and begin a task which teachers have prepared for the morning. At 8:00 am, attendance is taken and your child transitions to a new task.

We expect students to be on time for school. At King George, this means they are at their desks at 8:00 am ready to learn. If students come to school after 8:00 am, they must go to the office and sign in as they will be marked late.

Kindergarten

As of Tuesday, September 5, Kindergarten students are following their regular schedule. From Monday to Thursday, AM student attend school from 8:00 AM to 10:50 AM and PM students attend school from 11:40 AM to 2:30 PM. On Fridays, AM and PM students' alternate attendance. On Friday, September 8th, AM students will attend school from 8:00 AM to 12:10 PM.

Volunteers

We are so happy to be able to have volunteers back in our school and classrooms. To volunteer for your child’s class, or to help on field trips, you will need to have a CBE Volunteer Clearance. This clearance is valid for 5 years. Please contact the office if you need to apply or renew your clearance. More information about the process is available on the CBE website.
