Dear families of King George School,

Thank you to all volunteers who came out to support safety week, and especially with traffic, pedestrian crossings, and Kiss & Go area. Our school community has been engaging in learning about safety within school and outside of school.  Students have learned how to safely cross the street.  Ask your child what it means to Point. Pause. Proceed.  They are learning why it is important for drivers to park 5 meters from a crosswalk or curb.... because otherwise it is difficult for the pedestrian crossing the street to see if there is a car coming, and equally difficult for drivers to see if a pedestrian is crossing.  Both drivers and pedestrians have a responsibility to follow the rules of the road.  It is evident that we have a lot of learning to do around safety, and we will continue to work on this next week. Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our students safe on their way to and from school.

Terry Fox Run – September 24

Due to the heavy rainfall during the scheduled race this morning, we have rescheduled our Terry Fox Run. The run will now be held on Tuesday, September 24 at 9:30 AM.

Physical Education Specialist

Madame Claire, our Physical Education Specialist, will be away for a few weeks.  We would like to Welcome M. Campbell who will be our Phys. Ed. Specialist until she returns.

School Council Website

We want to remind families to check out the School Council website https://linktr.ee/kgschoolcouncil. Here, you will find information about upcoming events and initiatives.

Orange Shirt Day - September 26

On Thursday, September 26, we invite our school community to wear orange to honour orange shirt day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As a school, we will gather for an assembly. We will also be taking the opportunity to update the collective mural on the 10th street fence, as a visual reminder that Every Child Matters.

We also want to take the opportunity to remind the school community about our TRC Call to Action. Indigenous ways of knowing and being are woven into everyday learning tasks. Students have many opportunities to learn from the land by using our outdoor spaces.

Individual Program Plan (IPP) Review

If your child is on an IPP, your child’s teacher will communicate with you in the next week to set up a meeting regarding the first IPP of the year. At this time of year, teachers review all assessments and establish new targets and strategies. The IPP will be shared with families by October 11. Please take the time to look over the IPP and sign the signature page, which needs to be returned to the classroom teacher.

Lost & Found

Our lost and found is quickly accumulating. We ask that you write the name of your child on clothing and personal belongings. When items are labelled, our Lunchroom support staff does their best to return them to their owner as soon as possible. If items are not claimed, they are donated to charity at the end of every month.
