Dear families,

It was so lovely to have our families in for Learning Conferences on Thursday and Friday.  Learning Conferences are an official reporting period and an important part of supporting your child’s learning.  If you were unable to schedule an appointment, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a conference at a time that works better for you. Thank you to all those families who were able to visit the Book Fair and support the enhancement of our book selections in our Learning Commons.

Halloween – October 31

On Thursday, October 31, students are welcome to wear costumes to school. if your child chooses to wear a costume, please ensure it does not include weapons, fearful, violent, gory attire, full face masks or promote cultural appropriation. Students must come to school dressed in their costumes. Please ensure the costume is comfortable enough to wear all day and will not interfere with learning. Please do not send candy to school for distribution, as we are not permitted to do this.

Author Visit – Christy Jordan Fenton – November 1

We are looking forward to welcoming Christy Jordan Fenton, best-selling author and storyteller, to our school on November 1. Christy will be offering two sessions – one for students in K-3 and one for students in grade 4-5. The session will be about her late Inuvialuk mother and best friend, Olemaun Margaret Pokiak-Fenton, who attended an Arctic residential school in the 1940s.  It will have a trauma-informed, decolonizing, strengths-based approach to exploring residential school history, cultural reclamation, and reclaiming personal narratives as medicine. We want to thank our School Council for their support with this author's visit.
