Oct. 23-27 Update | Kindergarten Halloween Dance, The Weather, Morning Entry, Literacy Support
Dear Families of King George School,
This week, we had the opportunity to go out as a whole school to Confederation Park on a special walk, as part of Secret Path Week. We walked in honour of Chanie Wenjacck and all children who never made it home from residential schools.
Walk for Wenjack and Secret Path week is another opportunity to raise awareness about the history of Residential Schools and to engage in age-appropriate conversations as part of our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. You can go to this website for more information about Secret Path Week.
KG Family Halloween Dance
The KG Family Halloween Dance is on Thursday October 26 from 6-8 pm. School Council is looking for additional volunteers to help run the Halloween Dance. If you are able to volunteer, please sign up here. Thank you for your help!
Dress for the Weather
We are starting to see changes in the weather, including some cool (and potentially snowy) days in the upcoming week. Please ensure your child comes to school prepared for any type of weather as many learning activities take place outdoors. Please check the weather with your child when preparing for the day.
Morning Entry
We want to remind families that morning supervision begins at 7:45 am every morning. If you drop off your child prior to 7:45 am, please know that there are no adults supervising at that time. Our day and instructional minutes start at 8:00 am. Please make sure your child checks in at the office if arriving past 8:00 am. Thank you!
Home Literacy Support
Over the past few years, we have been shifting our literacy practices to align with the structured literacy approach. You can learn more about how you can support your child with literacy at home here. We are committed to using resources, with the support of School Council, that align with this approach.
University of Calgary Pre-Service Teachers
We will be hosting pre-service teachers from EDUC 540/560 (Field Experience III/IV) of the Werklund School of Education B.Ed. Program. These teachers are in their second year of the Education program.
- Pre-service teachers will plan for whole class instruction and work towards understanding and taking on the role of the teacher.
- Pre-service teachers will also set goals for their professional work in the classroom with the support and guidance of their partner teacher.
- They will gain experience in and an understanding of some of the key elements in teacher work today: collaboration, establishing collegial relationships, and working skillfully with others.
The field experience is scheduled from November 6 to December 15, 2023, and then from February 19 to April 26, 2024.
