Dear families,
Communication Required
This is a friendly reminder to let us know when there are any changes in attendance and/or end of day dismissal. Please call our front office when there are any changes in your child’s normal routine. For example: If your child normally takes the bus but will be picked up on a certain day. Let the office and your child’s teacher know of the change in plans. Otherwise,
If your child does not show up to the bus and nobody knows if they have been picked up:
a) Delays the busses from departing on time while we call home and try to find out if the child is safe
b) If we cannot reach you, we will follow our missing child protocol and will be calling 911.
Any person picking up your child has to be on our contact list in PowerSchool. Otherwise, you must put in writing by emailing Kinggeorge@cbe.ab.ca that you give permission for the person to pick up your child. Please include the date, name, and the person’s phone number.
Walkie-Talkie Use
We have had a few students bring walkie-talkie devices to school and use them both during the school day and at the end of the day on the school channel. This is a safety concern as this is a main line of communication for staff. Please remind your child(ren) that walkie-talkie use during the school day is not permitted.
Digital Citizen Plan
As a school, we implement a Digital Citizenship Plan each school year to support students' use of technology. Our two goals this year focus on:
- students’ understanding of the importance of keeping their passwords secure and private
- being respectful and caring for the digital technology in our school
You can read our Digital Citizenship Plan for the 2024-2025 school year here.
Remembrance Day & Indigenous Veterans Day
Over the upcoming week, students will be learning more about Remembrance Day and all veterans, including Indigenous veterans, who have sacrificed their lives for Canada. November 8 is National Indigenous Veterans Day where we recognize the contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have contributed military service to our country.
On Thursday November 7, students in grades 1-5 will also participate in a Remembrance Day assembly to honour all veterans and pay tribute by respecting a moment of silence. We encourage students that are part of Scouts, and Girl Guides to wear their uniforms for the assembly. Unfortunately, we are not able to welcome families to this assembly due to our gym capacity. Thank you for your understanding.
Veterans Food Bank - November 5 - 29
Our school will be collecting food and other household items for the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. This is a yearly drive at King George School, and we appreciate the donations that come in. Please consider donating to this cause between Tuesday, November 5 and November 29. Here is a list of urgently needed items for you to consider if you are able to donate.
