Dear families,
We hope everyone had a fun and restful fall break. Now that we are well into November and the weather is getting colder, please ensure your child is dressed for the weather. Apart from our recesses, teachers regularly take their students outside to learn beyond the walls of the classroom.
Absences & Extended Absences Procedure
The Calgary Board of Education recognizes the strong positive correlation between attendance and a student’s success in school. Regular attendance sets students on the path to reaching their full potential. At CBE we use a whole school approach to attendance to strategically allocate our resources and create a positive culture where students feel a sense of belonging.
- By grade 3, students with chronic absenteeism are less likely to read at grade level
- By grade 6, chronic absenteeism puts students at risk of not completing high school
We want to remind families that if your child is absent for two weeks or more, you must submit an extended absence form to the office. This form acknowledges that there is a strong correlation between school attendance and success, and that an extended absence will impact your child’s learning. We also want to remind you that teachers do not provide work for students that are absent. Thank you for your support with this.
Veterans Food Bank
We also want to thank families that have started donating items to the Veterans Food Bank. We will continue to collect donations until November. As a reminder, please visit the veterans Food Bank Website for a list of the urgently needed items for you to consider if you are able to donate. Only send non-perishable items to school. Thank you!
