Dear families of King George School

Can you believe that it’s already the last week of January! We want to take a moment to share our gratitude for the continued support and engagement of our incredible parent community. As we head into February, we are looking forward to our annual Carnaval from February 10–13. Stay tuned for more information!

Report Cards – January 27

Families will be able to view online student report cards for kindergarten – grade 12 students on Jan. 30. Report cards for the 2023-24 school year can be viewed, downloaded and printed. Parents and guardians can log in to MyCBE to view student information including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher and attendance information. For best access to information, log in to the MyCBE portal instead of using the PowerSchool app. For more information or support, please visit the CBE website

The CBE has implemented a format that includes proficiency descriptors, curricular connections, evidence in learning, next steps and success criteria.

In the comment section, teachers will highlight areas of strength and areas for growth related to curricular outcomes, articulating where this was evident in learning and identifying actions that will support next steps in learning. Comments will be provided for the following:

  • French Language Arts and Literacy (FILAL)
  • English Language Arts and Literacy (ELAL) (grades 3-6 only)
  • Mathematics

If your child has an Individual Program Plan (IPP), it will be sent home with your child for your review and signature next week.

Our next parent teacher conferences are March 7th and March 14th. If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning prior to the learning conferences, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

Family Literacy Day – January 27

On Monday January 27, it is Family Literacy Day. Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27 to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. The CBE is recognizing the importance of literacy with a CBE Literacy Week from Sunday, Jan. 26 to Sunday, Feb. 2.

Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well. This year’s theme is Learn to be Green, Together. You can learn more about how to engage in Literacy Week here

Spirit Day – January 30

Our Student Advisory group has recommended that we have monthly spirit days. Our first Spirit Day of the year will be a whole school monochromatic day – we invite everyone to wear blue on Thursday, January 30!

Packing Extra Snacks

We are noticing that there are many students asking for additional snacks at school. Please ensure that you pack enough food and snacks for your child. They may be going through a growth spurt and could use a little extra. If you are experiencing any food security challenges, please reach out to by calling the school at 403-777-6210, as we are able to help.

Reminder - Next Year Planning Survey

This is the time of year when we begin planning next school year’s organization, especially in terms of our enrolment and student population projections. Please fill out the survey below to indicate if your child/ren will attend King George School again next year. If you have any updates to your plans shared in this survey, kindly share this information with the office. If you have more than one child at King George School, please fill out one form for each child. Please note that there is a different form for students currently enrolled in Grade 5. We ask that this survey is filled out by Friday, January 31, 2025.
