Dear Families of King George School,

Our Early French Immersion Open House was a great success last night. Some of our grade 5 students took on leadership roles to provide a tour of our school to our prospective families. They did an excellent job, and we were so proud of how they represented students from King George School.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year has begun! It's hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year, and that we are already looking ahead and planning for next year. Please read below for more information.

Next Year Planning Survey

This is the time of year when we begin planning next school year’s organization, especially in terms of our enrolment and student population projections. Please fill out the survey below  to indicate if your child/ren will attend King George School again next year. If you have any updates to your plans shared in this survey, kindly share this information with the office. If you have more than one child at King George School, please fill out one form for each child. Please note that there is a different form for students currently enrolled in Grade 5. We ask that this survey is filled out by Friday, January 31, 2026.

Registration & Lottery

The deadline for registration for Kindergarten & Grade1 is February 10 at noon.

Early Years Assessments

KGS K-3 teachers will administer assessments from January 19 to February 6. These Universal screeners are assessments that measure a learner’s proficiency in different skills. In the Calgary Board of Education, teachers administer mandatory literacy and numeracy screening assessments in Kindergarten to Grade 3.

Why are Assessments Needed? Literacy and numeracy are important skills that develop during early childhood. Assessing learners in their early years:

  • Provides essential information to teachers, schools, parents, and Alberta Education about potential learning issues and needs.
  • Ensure learners get the help they need early in their education.
  • Monitors growth over time.
  • Supports a transparent, accountable, and responsive education system.

The results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps such as targeted interventions or instructional planning and are not used to determine grades.

Please contact the office if you have any questions about the assessments and if your child will be away during this time.

Report Cards and Ongoing Assessment

This year the Reporting periods have shifted. Report cards will be available through your MYCBE accounts on February 24, 2026.

Teachers have been using PowerSchool to upload summative assessments, which are now visible to parents and guardians through MyCBE. This is part of our ongoing commitment to clear, timely communication about how students are progressing at school.

While the report card provides a snapshot of student learning at a specific moment in time, PowerSchool reflects ongoing summative assessment throughout the year. These assessments show how students are progressing in relation to the curricular outcomes and help provide a more complete picture of learning over time.

In the Calgary Board of Education, assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Personalized learning occurs through flexible, responsive relationships between teachers, students, and the content being taught. Assessment is a continuous cycle that includes instruction, gathering evidence from a variety of sources, interpreting that evidence, and adjusting teaching practices to best support student learning. The primary purpose of assessment is always to improve student learning.

How to Access Ongoing Summative Assessments in MyCBE

  • Log in to MyCBEMyCBE
  • From the navigation bar, click on Grades and Attendance
  • Select the Assignments and Grades tab

We encourage families to review PowerSchool regularly and to reach out to teachers with any questions or to discuss the next steps in learning.
