Happy New Year 2026! We hope everyone enjoyed the Winter Break. It was great to welcome our students back to school and hear all about their experiences over the past two weeks.
Lockdown
In collaboration with Calgary Police Services, our first lockdown of the year is scheduled for Monday January 12 in the afternoon.
Reminder – Bell Times
Soft entry is from 7:50am to 7:58am. Doors close at 7:58 am to allow teachers to take attendance and start instruction at 8:00 AM. If your child arrives after 7:58, please have them enter through the main doors. If they arrive after 8:00 AM they must check in at the main office.
Recess and Playtime Safety Reminder
At KGS and across the CBE, student safety remains our highest priority. We are asking parents/guardians to please remind your child(ren) that hands-on behavior is not permitted at school. This includes activities such as play wrestling, pulling peers to join an activity, or any other form of physical contact, whether playful or otherwise. Many injuries and conflicts arise from seemingly harmless physical play, which can quickly escalate into altercations when a student is accidentally hurt. We encourage families to review the Student Code of Conduct with their children to reinforce the importance of creating a safe, caring, and welcoming school environment.
Keeping Valuables at Home
While we are delighted that students receive many wonderful gifts during the winter break and throughout the year, we kindly ask that they refrain from bringing valuable items to school. Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee the security of personal belongings. For this reason, we request that students keep treasured or high-value items at home. Parents are asked to remind their children of this policy, as the school is unable to replace lost or missing items.
Registration for 2026-2027 School Year (for new/prospective students only)
Registration opens January 12, 2026. If your child is entering Kindergarten or is not currently in Kindergarten at King George School and will be registering for Grade 1 for the 2026-2027 school year, please submit their registration via School Engage by 12:00 PM MST on February 11th. Students whose registrations are submitted prior to this deadline will be added to the lottery draw. For students who are currently registered at King George School, you do not have to register them again. They are automatically considered in our enrollment. Thank you.
K & 1 Early French Immersion Open House
Families who are considering the Early French Immersion program for children starting Kindergarten & Grade 1 in September 2026 are welcome to attend our Open House, this Thursday January 15 at 6:00 pm
Assessment & Reporting
Teachers have been using PowerSchool to upload summative assessments, which are now visible to parents and guardians through MyCBE. This is part of our ongoing commitment to clear, timely communication about how students are progressing at school.
While the report card provides a snapshot of student learning at a specific moment in time, PowerSchool reflects ongoing summative assessment throughout the year. These assessments show how students are progressing in relation to the curricular outcomes and help provide a more complete picture of learning over time.
In the Calgary Board of Education, assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Personalized learning occurs through flexible, responsive relationships between teachers, students, and the content being taught. Assessment is a continuous cycle that includes instruction, gathering evidence from a variety of sources, interpreting that evidence, and adjusting teaching practices to best support student learning. The primary purpose of assessment is always to improve student learning.
How to Access Ongoing Summative Assessments in MyCBE:
- Log in to MyCBE
- From the navigation bar, click on Grades and Attendance
- Select the Assignments and Grades tab
We encourage families to review PowerSchool regularly and to reach out to teachers with any questions or to discuss next steps in learning.
