Hello King George School Famlies!
I hope you all have enjoyed the lovely Chinook weather over the past week. Chinooks are one of the perks we all get to enjoy here in Calgary.
We have a short but wonderful week coming up with so many fun Carnaval activities. Please see below for all the fun details!
Carnaval February 9 - 11
Did you know that Quebec Carnaval is the largest winter festival in the world? It is an outdoor event that celebrates winter and Nordic living between the end of January and mid-February. Next week is King George School’s version of Carnaval!
Students will be engaging in hockey bottine (street hockey), les cuillères (musical spoons), and a défilé de portes (door parade). There will even be some visits from Bonhomme Carnaval during the week! You can read more about Carnaval de Quebec here.
Students will also be receiving a maple candy, which they will take home to enjoy. If you do not want your child to take home a maple candy, please inform your child’s teacher.
We will also have the following theme days during the week:
- Monday, February 10 – Checkered Shirt Day – Chemise à carreaux
- Tuesday, February 11 - Toque – Tuque (wear your favourite tuque or winter hat)
- Wednesday, February 12 – Bonhomme Bonhomme! (wear red & white)
We wish to thank our School Council for helping purchase the candy and supplies to make this French cultural event extra fun!

In November King George donated to the Veterans food bank and this is their kind reply :
Dear Students, Families & Staff,
There are so many worthy charities, thank you for your kindness in selecting Veterans Food Bank of Calgary for your donation of 380 lbs of food for your 2025 Food Drive. Canada Food Bank estimates $3.52 per pound of food, your donation equates to $1,337.60 of food on our shelves. This year we’ve been inundated with requests so it will go a long way.
We appreciate your on-going support and look forward to your support in 2026. We’re so grateful for the partnership with like-minded people such as yourselves, demonstrating kindness to others. We couldn’t serve our clients without you, Thank you.
