Dear families,

Thank you for sending your child(ren) dressed appropriately for the weather. During our cold snap, students stayed inside for recesses. They did have fun playing various games and having a chance to use the gym over lunch time. By Thursday afternoon recess, everyone was happy that it warmed up enough to go outside!

A friendly reminder that our doors are open for soft entry between 7:50 –7:58 AM, when teachers at the doors and supervising inside must attend to their classes and take attendance by 8:00 AM. However, there is always someone who will be at the East courtyard doors until 8:00 AM. Please time your drop-off accordingly. If you come after this time, please have your child go through the main office.

Carnaval – February 10-12

Did you know that Quebec Carnaval is the largest winter festival in the world? It is an outdoor event that celebrates winter and Nordic living between the end of January and mid-February. Next week is King George School’s version of Carnaval! Students will be engaging in hockey bottine (street hockey), la course à canot (sled racing), les cuillères (musical spoons), Effigie (effegy), and a défilé de portes (door parade). There will even be some visits from Bonhomme Carnaval during the week!  You can read more about Carnaval de Quebec here.

Students will also be receiving a maple candy, which they will take home to enjoy. If you do not want your child to take home a maple candy, please inform your child’s teacher.

We will also have the following theme days during the week:

  • Monday, February 10 – Plaid Shirt/Blue & White day – Chemise à carreaux/blanc & bleu
  • Tuesday, February 11 -  Toque – Tuque  (wear your favourite tuque or winter hat)
  • Wednesday, February 12 – Bonhomme Bonhomme! (wear red & white)

We wish to thank our School Council for helping purchase the candy and supplies to make this French cultural event extra fun!

Staffing Update
